I had a Dream

But it was really more of a nightmare.

Roy Halladay and Vernon Wells were traded to the Houst0n Astros for cash, prospects and first basemen Lance Berkman.

That is all, I have absoloutly nothing to base it on, I just felt I needed to share that with the world.

RST!!!!!!

It’s been too long. So you know what that means……RANDOM SPORTS THOUGHTS!!!!

1)    Who do you think gets more headlines south of the boarder: The Leafs or Ryan Leaf?
2)    Which is a bigger letdown for Canada: The Jays’ early collapse, or Mike Weir’s eventual collapse at the U.S. Open?
3)    Did anyone else see the photo shoot with Tennis star Maria Sharapova making over Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford? Click here to listen to the soundtrack of that photo shoot.
4)    This may be sacrilegious, but Vernon Wells reminds me of Joe Carter.
5)    Josh McDaniels announced Kyle Orton as the Broncos’ starter.  Then said “no decisions are made in June.” …..So why the hell are you wasting my time Josh?…Why are you wasting my time.
6)    Enough with Kobe people. He hasn’t changed; we just want the good guy to win. No one wants to say “he’s the same old Kobe,” so now he’s a “new leader?” This is more time wasting people.
7)    That being said Phil Jackson is the best BAKETBALL coach ever. But basketball coaches rely on their stars more then any other sport and he’s had the best. Remember when Doc Rivers was a laughing stock? Then came his meal tickets known as KG and Ray Allen.
8)    Sammy Sosa was on Steroids!?!?! That isn’t surprising. What is surprising is that anyone would be surprised….Did you get that?
9)     Michael Phelps wrote a kids book called “How to Train with a T. Rex and Win 8 Gold Medals.” That’s fuckin’ retarded even for a Michael Phelps kids book.
10)    Artie Lange is my new hero. Even though he’s the human equivalent to a KFC chicken-wing dipped in heroine, he made Joe Buck look completely idiotic.  And anyone who shuts up Joe Buck is a hero in my book.

Blue Jays First Semester Report Card

Toronto Blue Jays First Semester Report Card. A quick note, I have written this over a couple of days so some stats might be slightly stale.

With approximately one third of the school year, regular season behind us, its safe to say we are at that point where we can judge how a player, coach, or team has preformed, but there is still enough time to correct it. With that said here is a look at how each player has fared thus far throughout the 2009 season. Starting with the position players.

Marco Scutaro – SS

Scutaro has turned into the leadoff hitter that the Jays have lacked since Reed Johnson left us. He is batter .305, but more importantly for a leadoff hitter, his OBP is .408, drawing a total of 37 walks, good enough to lead the team, and be only second in the AL (Carlos Pena is first with 38, Jason Bay is tied with 37). Scutaro has also been nothing to scoff at in the power department with five home runs, and 15 doubles.

First Semester Grade: A-
but like his batting average it is on its way down.

Since you posted so recently Scott, I’ll split my post here, Click to keep reading.

Thrid Time’s the Charm

Well that was just terrible. I’m going to skip a review entirely to focus on this upcoming series against the Baltimore Orioles. If we want to keep any play off chances alive, we have win this series, if not sweep it. The A.L. East is just too competitive to take your time rebounding from a six game skid.

The Jays send Tallet (4.47), Romero (1.71) and Halladay (2.52) against Guthrite (5.37), TBA, and Hill (3.18). Two weeks ago, I would have thought that this would have been an automatic sweep for the Jays, but seeing as we scored 10 runs in 6 games, (1.67 rpg) we are going to need our pitching to keep giving us the quality they’re provided so far. I’m more worried about the chance for redemption when the Red Sox visit the Dome on Thursday, and we are without Halladay. Mike Wilner purposed an idea to bring up Casey Jansen to start this game for Halladay, and bump Halladay back one to start in Boston, however after bringing Jansen up for the Braves, it looks like this won’t happen.

I don’t think that it will be our defense that is an issue these next three days in Baltimore, as the Jays have only given up 204 runs thus far (we have scored 244, only Tampa as scored more with 263. The Yankees have scored 243, and Boston has scored 240). Baltimore has given up 263, but more importantly for the Jays they have given up 212. If there was ever a time for the bats to find their swing again, it would be now against the O’s.

With that said however, a slump is a slump, but Wells is due for a HR, and some RBIs, and Rios has been lukewarm of late. If we can get that sweet swing back from Scutaro, Hill, and Lind, with some help from Overbay and Rolen, we should have no trouble taking the series from Baltimore. Baltimore just won two of three close games against the Nationals, but lost 8-5 in the finale. I think that his is the kind of team the Jays need to beat up on to get their swagger back in time for the red sox.

How the (Not So) Might Have Fallen

Well, it finally happened, the Red Sox retook possesion of top dog in the AL East, but you know what they have won 11 games in a row, how much longer can it happen, seriously?

Other than Purcey’s not so hot start, a couple of dingers that really boosted the lead, it was a lack of offense tonight that hurt the Jay’s. The only run scored was from the bat of Adam Lind, and is it just me or is he due for a long shot soon, actually now that I think about it Snider is too.

While it would be nice to credit Royal’s starter Brian Banister with an outstanding performance, 7.0 IP, 1 ER, he also only had one K, and six walks. When the Jays were given a gift as nice as six walks in 7 innings they did next to nothing to capitalize on it.

And if I remember correctly, there was a flyball that landed for a triple thanks to Vernon’s tendency to play shallow. I knew he had gotten lazy, but too fucking lazy to run to your spot in the outfield, that’s pathetic.

I think that this series could be bad news bears for the Jays as in these four games we don’t send Doc out once. My prediction is that we split the series 2-2, depending on how hot the bats are.

14-0

So perhaps the score was a little bit inflated, that error in the first gave the Jays a couple of runs that they shouldn’t have scored, but none the less, it was still a blowout. All else being equal what a good outing from Tallet, going 5 and 2/3s with no runs, and five strikeouts in that windstorm, lowering his ERA to under 3.00 (2.95)

On the offensive side of the ball, only one homer coming form José Bautista, but I’ll take the other 20 hits they Jays got, including the triple from Wells. Unfortunately I was unable to watch the game, as I had to work so I cannot give you much more than a recap of the box score.

Tonight the Jays play the second game of the series against the White Sox, and look to extend their record to a league best 14-5, my prediction for April was 14-7, so I might not be too far off. Taking the mound tonight is Triple-A call up Brian Burres, however the forecast calls for rain, so there is a good chance that the game will be postponed, leaving Doc on the mound tomorrow.

I really think it will be interesting to see how the Jays fare against the rest of the AL East, but I’m glad they are taking this time to beat up on weak opponents right now.

If you are curious to see how Burrees did with Baltimore you can see his stats here.

Also on an NFL note, draft today, I wonder who will slip the most.
